Who we are: Jump Start Recovery is a local ministry to the homeless community in Fremont County. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we work with families and individuals who are without shelter. We primarily help those who are staying in the Loaves and Fishes homeless shelter but also help others who are living in their cars or in tents-often in the shadows of our streets, parks, and business parking lots.
Ending Toxic Charity: A Hand Up not a Handout:  The easy approach in helping those down and out is giving a handout in the form a few bucks or pocket change, a meal, or some gas money. Years ago, after hearing about a panhandler garnering over $750,000 on the streets of Manhattan in one year, that is when I stopped handing out money willy-nilly.

Giving without accountability to work towards change is toxic, poisoning dignity and destroying self-respect. It is not compassion but rather demoralizing pity.

Permanently solving this problem is done by advising, job training, and teaching effective life skills that incorporate lessons on overcoming emotional and character disorders. Many suffer from a wounded spirit from past trauma and definements from sin and abuse. God can heal these issues.

Funds donated to this ministry supports the needs of each person or family to overcome their homeless crisis and help prevent reoccurrence. Your contributions are tax deductible.

As for the homeless, those sick and in prison, those hungry and thirsty, those a stranger or naked that you help, Christ said, "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me." Matthew 25:40

Help us do the heavy lifting by partnering with us through your prayers and financial support.

There are many reasons for forced homelessness. Natural disaster, loss of work, domestic violence, abandonment, crushing troubles, addictions, child abuse, sex trafficking or effects of past trauma. Yes, some choose to live on the streets, but many are forced homeless and struggle to survive in a desperate situation.

What we do: Our primary programs are:
  •  Holding life skills classes at the local homeless shelter.
  •  Homeless Day Center - providing lunch & work skills classes.
  •  Financial Aid, Pastoral Counseling, Transportation.
  • Short Term Shelter - in partnership with Prospectors RV Resort.
